The beginning of it all...
I am a suburban working mother. I have lived in suburbia all my life except for a stint in the trailer park during my elementary years. I am married to a working, suburban, man. He moved here at the age of ten and has since lived in a very citified, suburban neighborhood. We are not farmers, or ranchers. Nor do we even live on land far enough out to be even remotely rural. All that to say, my darling husband has managed to live out some of our farmhouse dreams despite our physical address.
We've 'owned' a cow or two, a pig, chickens, quail, rabbits and now bees (plus my fictional, soon to arrive, goat). Never before have we tried to capitalize or grow a business based on any of this. It's been purely for fun. Or not.
Then a funny thing happened. A gentleman at our church asked us if we were selling the honey. What?! No! I'm going to eat the honey. All of it.
On toast. On cornbread. In tea.
And then I thought, maybe there would be enough to share. Wouldn't that be the christian thing to do? I don't even know when the bees will begin to produce. These things take time.
And what about the quail eggs? Are those for sale too? Does anyone want to eat quail eggs besides Cassidy? Maybe. Or maybe we are just going to keep hatching and laying and hatching until we are the crazy quail people. Or maybe there are enough of those too.
And then I wondered if this guy at church was the only one who would be interested in the wares I had to peddle... And what exactly were the 'wares' we were peddling... I wonder.
I'm Jennifer and I am so glad to meet you! I am a working mother of 4 children, surrogate mother of 2 children's boyfriends, a few children's best friends, a god-son, a prayer pal and a very special boy who smelled his way into my heart. Our home is open and all are welcome here.
